One of the most common questions regarding whether to use natural stone or manmade on your kitchen island and bench top is, ‘Will my natural stone stain?’ and ‘Which should I use?’. Simply put, natural is naturally better! But of course it is. So why the bad wrap? Natural stone is a porous material. If left unsealed, liquid substances can seep into it’s pores. For a heavily used areas, like the kitchen, we recommend a Honed finish (matt finish). This is because it is an impregnating sealer that fills in the pores to stop other substances from penetrating it’s surface. That isn’t to say that you can spill red wine and leave it for a week. As long as you are wiping up the spill, then with the honed finish will allow stress free marble living.
For extra cover, we recommend applying a Drytreat sealer every 3 years, then clean with your usual surface cleaner.
